Belsay Castle photos

Belsay Castle. Belsay has been the home of the Middleton family since 1270.

The fortified tower was built as a response to the conflict and unrest between England and Scotland. The Middleton family moved from the castle to Belsay Hall on Christmas day 1817. This was the originally the entrance doorway to the 1614 manor house.

After the union of the two kindoms under King James 1 in 1603, the tower was extended into a rambling country house.
